impacting the lead community

Project Purpose

Construct a community center in Lead that will provide vital needed services to support the community and the economic growth of the area. Services include childcare, indoor recreation, a new library, emergency shelter and other community programs.

Local Impact:

  • Safe affordable childcare, allowing people to return to work

  • ADA Compliant Library serving nearly 2,500 patrons annually (fire escape is a metal staircase currently)

  • Safe place for seniors and teens (youth) (no local senior center)

  • Boost health and well being

  • Immediately create 3 new jobs directly and approximately 35 indirect jobs

  • Emergency Shelter

 State Impact:

  • Reduce the estimated $329 million loss in productivity due to its inadequate childcare landscape by providing new childcare services in the northern Black Hills and getting people back to work

  • Public Private Partnership

  • Attract workers to the area, increasing productivity, generating more tax dollars to the state
